Corporate Social Responsibility

Purposeful Design through the Lens of Corporate Social Responsibility

Many social service organizations do a remarkable job helping struggling individuals work toward addressing the underlying causes of their struggle and get some distance between addiction and off the street. Purposeful Design takes life change to the next level by bringing marketplace rigor and leverage to bear through a job creation and revenue generation model. Purposeful Design utilizes enterprise to fight poverty. Click through the progress report below to view the many statistics representing results since our founding.

Supply: There is a large and growing number of homeless/addicted/formerly incarcerated individuals who have bottomed out and for whom there seems to be no hope.

Life transformation: How can a former homeless/addict/felon overcome the hurdles blocking him from becoming an employed, contributing citizen? Purposeful Design has developed apprenticeship and employment tracks that help men get and stay on their own two feet. Individuals at Purposeful Design learn to make beautiful custom furniture that is then sold, creating a revenue stream to fund the jobs. Because of this revenue stream Purposeful Design operates at 90%+ self-sustainability.

Demand:  Who would purchase product made by former homeless convicted addicts to make this process self-sustainable and scalable? The answer: commercial enterprises that find the dual-purpose purchase opportunity attractive. It meets the corporate need for beautiful, high quality furniture in the workplace and is an easy and effective way to achieve their corporate commitment to doing good in the community.

“A quality product, and helping people enhance their quality of life. A win/win!”
